After lunch we headed back to the hotel for some downtime in our air conditioned rooms. It was getting hot and humid outside.
So many interesting side streets and alleyways.
Cat Hotel 🐱
That looks a bit sketchy. 🤔
Feeling refreshed we decided to head to the river and see the “fancy” part of town. This area is being heavily developed with many chain store brands and high rise skyscrapers. It retains some of the colonial style as the City Hall building is in this part of town.

Vertical shopping mall
Stopping for some boba tea.
And you can get boba on your Frappuccino here too
Tredle machine exhibit. We stopped back here later for dinner. It’s attached to a big indoor food court.
Alley cats! So cute!
Scooter parking
We all think this looks like Stark Tower. Avengers assemble!
But to get to the riverside boardwalk we had to cross two very busy streets! 😱
This is a big floating restaurant
Is that a storm blowing in?
And almost as soon as we made it across the street the skies opened up and we had a firsthand experience of the rainy season. ☔️
We couldn’t get these 50 cent ponchos on fast enough!
Shelby was having a blast!
Needing to get inside and also being a bit hungry we found an indoor food court were everyone could hunt out and choose the type of food they wanted. Plus the restaurant had some neat architectural and design details. All the table stands we’re made from old tredle sewing machines for instance.
Dried off and warmed up we headed out to walk back to the hotel. The lit up buildings and wet roads and sidewalks made for some good photo opportunities.
Later that evening Tien, Noah, Hailey and me headed back out to the night market one more time for a light snack and more sightseeing.
And that was the end of day two. A day full of exploring, time with family, and some crazy adventure.
Tomorrow morning we take a flight to Hanoi.
More adventure to come. Stay tuned!
